Easy Care sheep climb the league table
The Easy Care Sheep society report another very successful year with a substantial increase in membership and an almost total clearance at the five society breed sales with a healthy increase in prices.
The EBLEX annual survey of sheep breeds shows that the Easy Care breed has grown from 13 thousand in 2003 when the society was formed to 119 thousand in 2012 which is an annual increase of 86%. The next highest breed was the Lleyn with a 22% annual increase.
The Easy Care breed secretary said it was indicative of the trend to low cost production and with the absence of wool an 80% reduction in the cost of shepherding.
