Winter 2014 Newsletter
Easy Care Newsletter Number 30 Winter 2014
No doubt you have read enough about comparing this Autumn weather with 2012. My suckler herd is still living well on grass alone and the silage has not been touched, nearly two months later than last year. The ewe flock are at least 10 kilos heavier and all are looking good – but there’s time yet.
We have a very busy agenda for 2014. We will have a stand at the three N.S.A events starting at ‘Scot Sheep’ in Berwickshire on June 4th then ‘South Sheep’ in Lewes, Sussex on June 18th and the main biannual sheep event at Malvern on July 30th. It would be nice if you could spare a little time on the stands to talk to people and extall the virtues of the breed.
Our open day this year will be in Scotland. We thought it best to visit them before they declare U.D.I and charge us for going there! The date is June 6th 2014 two days after ‘Scot Sheep’ so you can combine the two and visit this beautiful part of the country.
We are extremely fortunate that we have 2 of our most prominent breeders of Easy Care bordering one another namely Duncan Shell with 2,000 easy cares and a large herd of Angus sucklers and his neighbour Nuffield Scholar, Charlie Walker with a 1000 easy care and a herd of Welsh Black cows. They are both organic farmers and highly respected in the area. This is a visit NOT TO BE MISSED.
Our hotel for the visit is the Marshall Meadows Country House Hotel, TD15 1UT. It is a 3star Hotel just North of Berwick on Tweed. We have reserved the whole Hotel for the 5th and 6th June at £79 per room per night B&B. The dinner on the 6th will be £21.50 extra. It is a lovely Hotel but not very big so to avoid disappointment please book early direct with the Hotel on 0128 9331133 before April 1st.
As mentioned in the last newsletter we are adding another society sale to our list this year to cater for the expanding interest in the South West we will have our inaugural sale at Exeter. The sale dates are Thirsk September 13th, Gaerwen September 15th, Exeter September 26th, Worcester September 27th and Carlisle October 2nd. Please put them in your diary now.
Thanks are due once more to Rumenco for their sponsorship and apologies to Charlie Walker for calling him Johnny Walker in the last newsletter!
