I am delighted to report yet another summer of progress for the Easy Care breed. The AGM and Open Day at Pershore were a huge success. There was an excellent attendance and the wonderful facilities provided by our hosts, Mr William Steele, his son and daughter in law, Mark & Carron, made for an unforgettable day. Our keynote speaker, Mr Peter Morris, Chief Executive of the NSA, set the stage admirably for the lively discussions that followed. We also had a very busy season on the demonstration front with stands at the ‘NSA Wales & West Midlands’, Pentrefoelas ‘Sheep North’, Chipping ‘Sheep South West’, Oakhampton and the Royal Show. Campbell Tweed held his open day in County Antrim and Callum Burnett in Aberdeen. Our gratitude to all those who made these events such a success in promoting the breed to a wider audience. Once more our thanks go to our sponsors ‘Rumenco’ who helped us with the printing. If any breeders feel like organising an open day on their farm please let me know in good time so that we can organise all the necessary publicity. Our AGM and premier Open Day in 2010 will be on Des Donahoe’s farm in County Meath, (about an hour West of Dublin) on Saturday 26th June – put it in your diary. Our inaugural society sale will be held at Worcester Cattle Mart on Saturday 26 th September. The auctioneers are McCartneys, Tel 01905769770. The entries are now closed and I am delighted to report that there are 900 ewes and ewe lambs and 50 rams entered for sale. There are entries from MV accredited, non MV accredited and organic flocks. All members will shortly receive a catalogue. All those interested in discussing plans for the breed to take forward recording initiatives are invited to a meeting at the Premier Inn, Worcester at 7pm on 25th September (the evening before the sale). Accommodation can be booked at the Premier Inn on 01905 451240. Please come and support our first sale and bring your friends. Iolo Owen M.B.E., F.R.Ag.S., N.Sch. |
