AGM

The fourth AGM of the Easy Care Sheep Society will be held at Elliott’s Farm, Kislingury, Northants on Sunday June 11th at 10.00 am. All members are requested to attend. The Agenda will contain the following items:-
1. A brief report on the progress of the Breed and financial position of the Society.
2. A report on the NSA Council by Dr John Parsons.
3.The appointment of a second representative on the NSA Council to replace Iolo Owen.
4. Discussions.
5. Any other business.

OPEN DAY

The fourth Annual Open Day is at Roger Elliott’s farm on Sunday June 11th. A flyer has been forwarded to all members who are requested to advertise it to their friends and neighbours! We are grateful to “Rumenco” for helping with the printing. This all helps make our meagre resources available for advertising and promotion at sheep events.

The last few Open Days have not only been very successful from a business point of view but have also provided the members with an opportunity to meet and socialise, an important part of any Society. With this in mind we have arranged a dinner on the evening of 11th June at the Old Dairy Farm Restaurant, Upper Stowe, Weedon. The restaurant belongs to one of our members, Helen Brodie, and is only a few miles from Kislingbury. Directions will be available at the open day. A meal including lamb (Easy Care) for the very reasonable cost of £12.95 has been arranged. Please book direct with Ann, the proprietor, on 01327349911

SHEEP EVENTS

The Society has a space booked at “Easicare”. This is a sheep event at Melton Mowbray, Leics, on Friday 5th May. This event is organised by the Charollais Sheep Society. It is fascinating to see how others find the title “Easycare” attractive, even if they do spell it differently !

We will also be at the “Sheep ‘06” Event at Malvern on Wednesday 2nd August. Any member who can come and help on the stands will be more than welcome.

NEWS

The months that have passed since the last newsletter have been another period of growth with continued glowing reports on the performance of the Easy Care Breed.

The enquiries keep flooding in and now some breeders have reached their optimum numbers allowing more females to be available for sale. With this in mind we have added a “Stock for Sale” page on the web site. If any breeders wish to use this facility they should contact the Society in order that they can be registered (we need to ensure only members use it!). Registration is only required once, after which members may place as many ads as and when they wish. There is a small fee of £10 per advert - this can be paid securely online via the site as the ad is placed or by cheque. Please contact Andy Teal, who runs the website, for details - Tel. 01407 840818, or email him here.

It is vitally important that only sheep true to type are sold and any sign of wool or horns are not Easy Care and only sheep carrying the official ear tags can be sold as Easy Care. The tags are available from the Secretary at £1 each.

All the new rules and regulations concerning sheep that are either in force or in the pipeline only emphasise the advantage of the Easy Care . The banning of synthetic parathyroid dips (SP’s) and all the other stringent rules governing dipping make wool less sheep that don’t need fly dipping even more attractive. The proposals to outlaw the docking of tails must be a great worry to breeders of woolly sheep. Just imagine all the extra crutching needed!

The membership fees are due on 1st June. We are still only asking for £15. Last year I had to chase a few for their sub which all takes time so please send your sub to me or bring your cheque book to the Open Day.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it on the 11th of June.

Regards

Iolo Owen
